Shelley M. Peters Biography

shelleyphotoShelley M. Peters graduated from law school in 2002.  After high school, she took a lengthy sabbatical from scholastic enterprises and experienced life for a decade (or more) before getting serious.  Shelley’s dad was (is) a construction worker and her mom was (is) as homemaker.  Between high school and college Shelley worked just about every imaginable job appropriate for a female.  As a result, she can relate to anyone; and that is why her clients love her.

Shelley spent around ten of those years working as a legal secretary.  The attorneys she worked for had her doing “attorney” tasks, which was fine, except they certainly weren’t paying her for it.  So . . . Shelley went to college.

Working full-time while attending college part-time was a long endeavor.  After studying a multitude of years at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Shelley finished her undergraduate degree and applied to law school.  Shelley was accepted in the accelerated program and finished her law degree early.  Then, the real work came.desk

The attorneys and court personnel Shelley previously worked with supported her upon her graduation.  Shelley was the most daring of law school graduates and opened her own law firm twelve days after passing the bar.  Much to her surprise, the phone rang.

Case 1:  Woman is charged with stabbing her ex-husband.  Woman says “she ain’t pleading to *#!@”.  Okay, Shelley investigates.  She finds out ex was previously committed to a mental hospital and therefore, is an unreliable witness.  Shelley interviews all the kids (who were present during the alleged assault) who say, “Mommy didn’t do that.”  Shelley presents her investigation to the State, CASE DISMISSED.

Case 2:  Client and friend are coming out of a bar around three o’clock AM.  Friend is smoking weed.  Two unknown guys start acting pissy and beat the CRAP out of friend.  Client runs to his car and gets baseball bat and beats the CRAP out of guys beating on his friend.  Turns out other guys are cops, plain clothes, off duty, and wasted.  Client, with no criminal history, gets charged with class A felony of assault on a law enforcement officer.  Case goes to trial.  During trial, state offers misdemeanor assault with probation.  Client has family so he takes the deal.  Later, jury wonders why client took the deal, they were going to ACQUIT him . . .

Case 3:  Shelley meets Pat.  Client’s brother calls and says client is charged with passing a bad check.  Shelley says fine, no problem.  Later, CNN, AP, and every other news channel is calling about client . . .why?  Turns out client has much more serious charges and the national news is interested.  Shelley freaks.

Shelley spends that Friday afternoon trying to find someone with more than twelve days experience.  Pat (with 20 some-odd years experience) answers his phone.  Pat and Shelley work the case (you wouldn’t believe the things they did investigating their client’s claims).  Nonetheless, jury finds client guilty.  Bad result, but the beginning of an awesome duo.

Since then, Shelley has been assisting Pat in every case.  Pat and Shelley fight every step of the way – whether it be a traffic ticket or a murder charge – the government is getting a fight.  Pat and Shelley’s legal skills complement one another to the benefit of their clients.  They are well known for working hard for their clients and are well respected for their work in the legal community.

Of course, Pat and Shelley married. They have a son who knows more about the law than any child should.  They live part-time at a local lake, and part-time in a condo above their office.  Apparently, they feel, their work is never done . . . always available to the benefit of their clients.
